Paid is getting harder, regulated, and more expensive. Organic is becoming the moat. Here's how the projects winning page-one rankings actually built them.

Crypto founders historically treated SEO as an afterthought — a thing the content team would "get to." That worked when paid was cheap and KOLs were uncluttered. Neither is true in 2026. The projects that built organic distribution between 2022 and 2024 are now harvesting compounding leads at zero marginal cost. The ones that didn't are paying $300 CPCs and watching ad accounts get suspended.

The keywords that convert vs the ones that don't

Crypto is YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) in Google's classification — alongside health and finance. That means Google evaluates content harder than it would for a recipe site. A single 1,200-word post about your exchange ranks nowhere. What works is depth, breadth, and structure.

The pillar page targets a high-volume query; the cluster pages target adjacent long-tail queries and link inward to the pillar. Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trust — Google's filtering criteria for YMYL content. Crypto fails this test by default. Underrated and free. The structure of your site tells Google what you think the most important pages are. Cluster pages should link upward to the pillar page using descriptive anchor text. The pillar page should link to category pages. The category pages should link to product pages. Everything cascades.

A clean architecture means a new article published today benefits from every interlinked article published before it. A messy architecture means each piece of content earns its rank in isolation.
